Scene Summary

On Thursday, April 24, 2025, just after 9:00 p.m., Sacramento Police Department officers responded to a fatal hit-and-run collision at Stockton Boulevard and Riza Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located an adult female pedestrian who had been struck and killed by a vehicle that fled the scene before authorities arrived.

I responded to the call after hearing scanner traffic reporting a pedestrian hit with the suspect vehicle fleeing. Upon arriving, I observed the body of the victim lying in the roadway as officers secured the scene. In an emotional discovery, animal control officers were also dispatched to retrieve two dogs found near the victim, believed to have belonged to her.

The Major Collision Investigation Unit (MCIU) and Crime Scene Investigators (CSI) arrived to process the scene, canvass the area for witnesses, and gather evidence.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased after next-of-kin have been notified.

Scanner Traffic, My Observations, Key Takeaways

Scanner traffic initially indicated a pedestrian was struck and the driver fled. Upon arriving, I observed a large police presence securing the area and a body in the roadway.

Officers coordinated with animal control to retrieve two dogs at the scene, believed to be associated with the victim. Investigators thoroughly documented the scene while canvassing for surveillance footage and witnesses.

This tragedy serves as another devastating reminder that leaving the scene of a collision is a crime that destroys lives. Witnesses who come forward can play a critical role in delivering justice for grieving families.
