Armed Suspect Pursuit Ends in Nonlethal Gunfire and K-9 Bite in North Sacramento

On April 18, 2026, at approximately 8:30 PM, an armed suspect pursuit originating with the Citrus Heights Police Department ended on Kenwood Street and Academy Way in North Sacramento. The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department and Sacramento Police Department assisted in the pursuit, with a law enforcement helicopter providing aerial coordination overhead. The suspect drove the wrong way on multiple occasions during the chase, creating a dangerous situation for other drivers and bystanders. When law enforcement made contact with the suspect, nonlethal rounds — believed to be rubber bullets or bean bag rounds — were deployed. A K-9 unit also engaged, biting the suspect during the takedown. I heard the call unfold on the scanner and responded to the scene in real time. When I arrived, I could hear the shots being fired and the crowd screaming in the background. A Code 3 fire and ambulance response was requested for the K-9 bite injury to the suspect.
